I purchased this printer as gift for a friend who lives in small apartment with limited space for computer equipment. She is thrilled with it as her budget wouldn't permit her to make such a purchase. I was sure this printer would be long term reliable as I have been a happy HP customer with all HP equipment for over 20 years.

Can you print in black and white. only, and then only replace the black ink cartridge?
Hello. Thanks for your question. Yes. When the tricolor ink cartridge is empty or low, you would take that ink cartridge out. The printer will automatically go into single-cartridge mode. Then, you can print with just the black ink cartridge if you wanted to. So, you don't have to replace the tricolor ink cartridge.

On the right-hand side just below the scanner on the unit is a gap to lift the whole scanner bed up to get to the cartridge bay to change the cartridges. Each cartridge has its own latch that you popoff and on in the holder.

How do I turn it on? I got a new 6055e and I unpacked it and plugged it in. A flashing purple light came on but working with HP Smart I could never figure out how to get it installed. After about 3 hrs. The printer shut off. What do I do know?
