Excellent Investment
The newer block dock requires less space than the original docks. I have had no problems with connections, with device communication, or device recognition. My complaint or suggestion is to remove the DP ports and add more USB-A and USB-C ports. I had to add a USB hub for the rest of my connections.

Needs firmware update
When I first connected it to my laptop and connected my hubs to the dock, the laptop only saw one device from each hub. I checked HP's web site and found out that the dock had been delivered with out-of-date firmware. I downloaded and installed the latest dock firmware, after which everything was hunky-dory.
It's HP's job to make sure their devices are delivered with up-to-date firmware. HP failed to do that. The customer should not have to fix HP's failures.
Bottom line: device fine, HP failed.

Good Dock but pricey.
Good Dock but pricey, also larger than normal due to higher power output. We also had an issue with ASUS Pro Art Monitors connected to this dock using Display Port to Display Port cables (monitors kept connecting / disconnecting). Display Port to HDMI worked without issues, however this may be a Windows 11 issue and not a hardware issue.

On the system requriements, it mentions "Wired vPRO Management", what does this mean?
With Intel® vPro® Active Management Technology, authorized administrators can remotely access notebooks using wired connections, even if turned off, to make updates. The main system requirement is a notebook with a Thunderbolt port. If your PC has a Thunderbolt port and doesn't use an AC adapter stronger than 230W it should be compatible.
Also, this Dock is backward compatible with USB-C® Alt mode, ports will work at USB-C® Alt mode speeds which are dependent on host specifications. For USB-C® Alt mode, the host PC must support
Thunderbolt™ 3 or Thunderbolt™ 4 running a DP 1.4 DSC host. For USB-C® alt mode functionality, host

Most HP EliteBook 850 G8 laptops feature a Thunderbolt 4 USB-C port that will be compatible with this dock. If there is a symbol of a lightning bolt (Thunderbolt 3) next to the USB-C port, then you can use this port to charge and transfer a video signal. This port supports Display Port alt-mode.
