HP USB-C G-5 Docking Station - Buyer Beware
The G5 docking station does not charge my laptop. The laptop must be plugged in separately. Additionally when connected to multiple monitors, one screen goes black at least once per minute sometimes every 20 seconds. other than these 2 flaws, it works good. Before purchasing, please Google "HP USB-C G5 Docking Station problems"

Works great with MacBook Air
The G5 is a replacement for a more portable docking device for my MacBook Air, which tended to overheat when operating an external disc drive. With the G5 I found I really don’t need the portability, it stays on my desk with accessories connected. An added benefit is my external speakers sound much better through the docking system, so high marks for the DAC in the G5!

Works fine after some initial incorrect setup error messages.
Easy setup - but I received some error messages during the setup of the new laptop the docking station was hooked up to. One was for the insufficient power, which is clearly wrong as the computer power need is on 75% of the dock output, and the second was for my mouse which was not even connected yet.

I have a HP Model: 12-da0096od Product ID SEF87UA#ABA laptop running windows 10. This laptop model does not have a USB-C port on it. It does have two USB-A ports. Will this docking station work in a purchase a USB-A to USB-C adapter?

Can this docking station power on a Macbook M1 through the power button? Also does it support through thunderbolt a resolution of 2k on Macbook M1?

what's the difference between this docking station and the thunderbolt 120W G4 besides the price?
There are many differences between the Thunderbolt Dock and this USB-C Dock. The greatest being that Thunderbolt has a much greater connection speed than a USB-C port with DisplayPort and PowerDelivery. If your PC has a Thunderbolt port it is recommended to purchase the correct Thunderbolt Dock. If it has a compatible USB-C port, then it is recommended to purchase a compatible USB-C Dock. Got a G5 & using 2 monitors with display port connections. Didn't work. Tried same thing with a G4 with the same results. Both the VGA connection on G4 & HDMI on G5 worked but had to use HDMI on elitebook for 2nd monitor. thinking it's the monitors??

I have HP EliteBook 850 G8 with Iris Xe Graphics. Can I use 5120 x 1440 ultra-wide display through HP G5 Essential Dock? Cable to be used. Laptop - Dock : USB-C Dock - Display : Display Port Cable
It can vary depending on the model, but the max supported resolution through DisplayPort is 5120 x 3200 @60Hz for the i7 and i5 11th gen processors that come with the EliteBook 850 G8. The max resolution supported by the HP USB-C G5 Essential Dock with one screen is 5120 x 2880 @60Hz. You would be able to use the 5120 x 1440 setting with this setup.

Connected HP USB-C G5 5TW10AA with HP ProBook 440 G6 and 3 FHD monitors (1 HDMI + 2DP on dock). When the notebook lid is closed all fine. When I open the lid, one monitor goes black. BIOS setting Enable High Resolution already done. Any ideas?

Hi, what's the difference between this dock and the standard G5 dock? We have a quite big backlog of G5 docks that isn't delivered from HP because of material constraints. I cannot really see the differences from the specs.
