Intel® has created something truly unique with its 12th Generation processors, also known as “Alder Lake” processors. They are designed to work with Windows 11 to offer a powerful and efficient computing experience.
How do they do this? By using a hybrid architecture of both Performance cores (P-cores) and Efficiency cores (E-cores) to properly balance the computer's resources. With up to 8 P-cores, these devices easily handle IoT workloads, gaming, and creating processing (like editing and rendering). The E-cores ensure background tasks don’t interfere, and they support the multitasking of the average PC user.
Responsiveness, prioritization, and even energy efficiency are boosted by the harmony of these two core types working together for the first time.

HP's adoption of Alder Lake technology

HP is a trusted partner that has been putting "Intel inside" its computers for years. The new Alder Lake processors are at the heart of many of HP’s latest and greatest devices, including those for gaming, data processing, creating, and business applications.
You can find Alder Lake technology in laptops, desktops, and even in convertible powerhouses. With a range of core options to choose from, HP has dozens of device configurations that put this technology at the forefront.

Performance enhancements in HP devices

intel performance enhancements
The new processors allow for up to 16 cores and 24 threads, powerful graphics, enhanced AI capabilities, and PCIe 5.0 to be combined in one device. These computers can even support a fourth display pipe, as well as 8K video, where available.
With support for these upgrades, users will see dramatic results, including faster speeds, the ability to run more programs at once, and longer battery life.
In testing, the Intel Core™ i9-12900K processor offered:
  • Up to 22% better performance in product development/AEC workflows
  • Up to 45% better performance in media and entertainment workflows
  • Up to 81% better performance for financial services tasks
  • Up to 39% faster modeling performance in AutoDesk Revit
As the first Intel chip to offer the hybrid chip design, the processors drive up to 1.36x faster single-thread performance and up to 1.35x faster for multi-thread performance than their 10th Generation processors.

Impact on user experience

Not everyone uses their device the same way, and the results a gamer would like to see from a computer vary from what a data scientist or a financial professional needs. The good news is that all applications should see improvement in video display (up to 8K), AI tasks, and the ability to multitask.
Alder Lake lets you upgrade to DDR5 memory if you choose. This gives users in a variety of industries a better way to run resource-intensive applications, especially those that need to update frequently or render quickly (like illustration programs or 3D design tools.)
You don’t have to have a high-powered computing job to get the benefits, however. Even having multiple tabs open uses a lot of memory; Alder Lake supports the needs of students, those who work from home, and casual gamers.
This is great news for those on a budget who want reliable speeds at a lower price; the i5 processors deliver similarly to i7 or i9 processors but on a smaller scale. If you’ve opted out of the latest processing technology for fear of paying more, the Alder Lake technology gives you a way into the future of computing without breaking the bank.

Energy efficiency and sustainability

HP's sustainability goals include how PCs are made and what the gadgets do when used. As the Alder Lake technology clocks memory speed up or down, it optimizes power use without disrupting the experience. It also supports a longer battery life in laptop devices, which is especially a concern for those who game on the go.
Since HP makes its PCs with materials like post-consumer plastics and agricultural waste, less junk ends up in landfills and oceans. The addition of Alder Lake processors just makes these already eco-friendly devices even more impactful. The PCs combine form and function with less waste and more attention to how products are sourced, shipped, and recycled.

Future-proofing with Alder Lake

AI tasks, data processing, and enhanced art and design are just a few of the tasks a modern computer will need to handle easily. These areas are also changing, requiring PCs to do more quickly to keep users productive in a changing workforce.
Alder Lake is poised to take on these challenges, ensuring that for the next few years, this hybrid processing chip can easily manage new developments in artificial intelligence, machine learning, finance, health, and retail.
Since many HP computers are easily upgradable, allowing for more memory, storage, and even graphics processors when needed, consumers can buy in confidence.

Alder Lake laptops

The Intel technology inside Alder Lake processors ensures laptops use resources more efficiently, resulting in longer battery life, among other perks. These HP models show what's possible.
The truly revolutionary HP Spectre Foldable Laptop (17-cs0097nr) offers a breakthrough bendable 17-inch screen design. It lets you work in laptop mode, tablet mode, or an extended desktop mode with more touch screen space for flipping between applications. The 5MP camera offers loads of features, including AI-based background blur and auto framing to help you look your best.
Additional benefits include a screen distance reminder, a walk-away lock, and a privacy blur to keep people behind you from seeing your work. All of these innovative details come packed into a powerful, fast, and beautiful laptop made from sustainable materials.
The HP Pavilion x360 Convertible (15-er1047nr) is more than a typical laptop, offering consumers a 2-in-1 experience for flipping easily between work and entertainment. The lightweight laptop offers flicker-free screentime, thanks to enhanced DC dimming technology and a superb 178-degree wide viewing angle for a more immersive experience. Enhanced color control makes this computer ideal for design and illustration projects.
Another laptop, the HP Elite Dragonfly 13.5-inch Chromebook Enterprise, combines the stability and security of a Chrome OS experience with the power of a business laptop. Use it in laptop or tablet mode; each highlights the brilliance of the 13.5-inch diagonal 2K touch display powered by Intel Iris® Xe Graphics. Weighing in at just 2.8 lbs., this sleek device packs performance in a small package.

Alder Lake desktops

The Intel processor technology found in Alder Lake chips is ideal for desktop uses, as well. Workstations equipped with the new processor exceed the capabilities of their predecessors.
You can’t have a conversation about the new Alder Lake improvements without mentioning gaming. The OMEN 45L Gaming Desktop (GT22-0450t) is the ideal example of what happens when this processor is paired with a loaded graphics CPU, cooling design, and upgraded RAM solutions like the HyperX 16GB DDR4-3733. A sleek black case and vibrant RGB lighting controls make this desktop as stunning to look at as it is to use. From hobby to pro gamers, this desktop delivers.
When simplicity is more your aim, the HP ENVY All-in-One PC (34-c1045t) is one to consider. With an integrated 34-inch WUHD display with an anti-reflection surface and a three-sided micro-edge frame, you can see games, movies, and graphic design work in beautiful detail. The magnetic 16MP binning camera detaches as needed to show off your work and get your best angle. Like the other PCs on our list, it’s efficient and reliable, but it also takes up less room at your desk.
Finally, you’ll find the HP Slim Desktop (S01-pF2145xt) to be a steady addition to your tech stack, offering plenty of storage and a number of front-facing ports. It’s ideal for connecting multiple accessories, monitors, and storage drives, and it makes quick work of data transfers with the Alder Lake tech. A slimmer PC than others in its class, it’s ideal for those who want their gear to blend into their surroundings.

Summary

When Intel introduced the 12th Generation processors to the world, so much changed. Instead of focusing on performance or efficiency, the technology allowed both, empowering users to balance their need for speed with lower energy use and better resource management.
Many of the newest HP computers feature this innovative technology and the components that go with it. Pick from their pre-built inventory, or customize a desktop or laptop that fits your unique computing style.
If you already own a PC with past Intel technology, it may be time to upgrade. The test results show an incredible increase in speed and performance with the new processor technology. For those who want to increase battery life or use less energy, it’s a win-win that doesn’t force you to pick between your values to get the experience you deserve.
